muveeStyles let you instantly transform video clips and pictures into entertaining and emotive productions right on your mobile phone
Singapore –– March 07, 2005 – muvee Technologies, the pioneer and global leader in automatic video production, is proud to announce that its co-founder, Terence Swee, is the IT Leader Awards’ Young Professional of the Year for 2005. The award was conferred at a gala dinner held in on March 5 at Singapore’s Swissotel, The Stamford. Launched in 1997 by the Singapore Computer Society (SCS), the IT Leader Awards encourages entrepreneurship and innovation by publicly recognizing outstanding contributions to, and achievement in, the field of technology.
mDr. Pete Kellock, muvee’s founder and CEO, said, “This is a wonderful honor and we’re very proud of Terence. I’ve been working with him since our research days at Kent Ridge Digital Labs (now I2R). Terence's boundless energy, technical knowledge, artistic talent and sheer drive never cease to amaze me. Start-ups are a team effort and we have many outstanding people in muvee, but a lot of what we’ve accomplished in the few years since we started muvee is the result of Terence’s extraordinary skill and determination.”
Terence, who is muvee’s Chief Opportunities Officer, helped develop the award-winning muvee autoProducer, the world's first automatic video editing software. Terence has been instrumental in putting muvee's products on the world map, traveling relentlessly around the globe year-round promoting and negotiating multi-million dollar licensing deals with the number one players in every consumer electronic segment that muvee participates in. To date, muvee’s products have sold into 150 countries worldwide, and are bundled globally with major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) including Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Nikon and ATI. muvee was also the first to offer automatic movie-making for the mobile phone platform, and within a year has seen its technology embedded on 6 Nokia camera-phone models, two of which were recently unveiled at the 3GSM World Congress in mid-February. In the last year, muvee has also developed over 100 additional muveeStyles each for the PC and mobile phone platforms to complement its products in these areas.
The company’s notable achievements recently prompted Singapore’s Senior Minister to highlight muvee Technologies as one of the “newer companies whose innovations are making waves in their respective industries” during his opening speech at the inaugural Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year World Summit 2005 held in Singapore in February.
In the 3 years since the company’s incorporation in 2001, muvee has earned patents for its technologies and tripled revenues each year, achieving positive cash-flow and a full year of profit in 2004. muvee Technologies is now 43-strong at its headquarters in Singapore, and expects to grow to 50 staff by the end of 2005.
Upon learning of his award, Terence said, “Starting a new company and going global with a new product is really a lifestyle, not a job! I am very fortunate to work with an absolutely talented and amazing team that I learn so much from every day. Being conferred this award is really a starting point for me and my company, and I really hope that what we’re doing can inspire other local companies to dream globally even when they are small, and just get out there and plant their flags as we did. There is still much to achieve, but I am very positive going forward, as we have a great team behind this enterprise.”
