muvee Moves to its New, 100% Staff-Designed Headquarters
Expanded 20,000 square-foot space is a technologically advanced, one-of-a-kind work and play ground optimized for creativity, collaboration and interaction
SINGAPORE -- December 7, 2006 - muvee, the pioneer and leader in Instant Personal Video, today officially celebrated its move to its new headquarters at BOC Plaza. Fully designed based on the collective ideas of muvee’s 80-strong staff, the 20,000 square feet of space now boasts state-of-the art technology such as IT boards and over 450 data ports providing ubiquitous high-speed Internet access, as well as leisure facilities on site including a fully-equipped theater-cum-production studio, a ‘50s-styled retro American diner, games zone and gym.
Spread across 2 floors at BOC Plaza, muvee’s new headquarters is, uniquely, the brainchild of the entire staff, which is made up of technologically-savvy and creative individuals from over 16 countries. The office design project commenced early in 2006, and kicked off with a 3-month feedback-gathering exercise to consolidate the suggestions of every muvee employee in order to create a unique, fun work environment that encourages productivity and inspires creativity. More than a hundred ideas were given, and over 90% of them were eventually incorporated into the final design.
Mr. Philip N. Morgan, muvee’s Chief Operating Officer and project leader for all design and construction activities of the new headquarters said, “We are truly proud of this mammoth project as it is probably one of the most ambitious undertakings in muvee’s history. Staff recruitment and retention were key considerations. Everything here – from the minutest to the grandest detail – originated from our staff, and everyone is encouraged to personalize his/her own work space. It is a great place to work and play, as it promotes innovation, creativity and expression at every corner that you turn.”
One of the highlights of muvee’s new headquarters is the sound-proof, 30-seat muvee theater, which also serves as a group presentation room, in-house production studio and ‘jamming’ studio for muvee’s resident band. Another popular hub is the ‘50s-styled retro American diner, which is outfitted with booth seats and decorated with memorabilia, including vintage American license plates purchased off eBay.
In addition to being staff designed, muvee assumed the role of main contractor and undertook the overall project management of the renovation and outfitting of the facility. This included doing the space planning, technical drawings, supplies procurement and supervision of specialist sub-contractors. The company also used manpower from ‘Teen Challenge’ to support the Yellow Ribbon campaign.
Added Mr. Morgan, “In maintaining control over this project from the very start to finish over all aspects, we ensured that we got exactly what we wanted with almost no compromise, and at substantial savings. We worked with existing constraints in the architecture and layout of the space, and managed to complete the facility in a little over 6 weeks and at 40% below budget. We can unequivocally say that this headquarters is reflective of the kind of company we are: unique, driven by passion in everything we do. We leapfrog traditional approaches to problems and come up with new solutions. When you walk into our headquarters, you walk into a culture.”
Other features of muvee’s new facilities include a 2,000-square foot data center that houses a software testing lab, server room and command center, a napping room with a La-Z-Boy recliner, a video editing suite, a War Room for strategic planning, a touch-down room for guests and a steam shower and laundry area. Previously located at The Bencoleen, muvee’s new headquarters at BOC Plaza is now in the culturally-rich, vibrant Civic District.
